ANNOUNCES AN OPENING FOR
HIGH SCHOOL MATH INSTRUCTOR
The Scranton State School for the Deaf, a state-owned school,
is located in Scranton (Lackawanna County) in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The campus consists of an academic and residential complex of
nine buildings located on ten acres of scenic land. The mission
of the school is to enable and empower each student to reach his/her
highest potential.
Scope of Duties:
Under the general supervision of the High School Principal, this position is responsible for educating the subject of High School Math (Pre-algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus and Vocational Math courses) to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Students will be assessed yearly toward their attainment of standards proposed for their grade level by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our goal is for our students to test at grade level on all PSSA math tests (Pennsylvania State Standards Assessment). The teacher in this position is responsible to understand and follow the guidelines outlined in the Philadelphia Frameworks curriculum for math and maintain compliance of student IEP's.
Minimum Requirements:
¨ Possession of, or eligible for, Pennsylvania Instructional
Certification in education of deaf children and Math Certification.
¨ Ability to converse proficiently with deaf children and
adults in American Sign Language.
Salary: $36,057-$69,357(Based on Educational Certification and years of experience).
Benefits: Fringe benefits include 3 personal days and 10 sick days. Health insurance is available by contributing 1% of the bi-weekly gross salary. An additional contribution may be required depending on the health plan selected. Vision, dental, prescription, and hearing aid reimbursement coverage is available beginning with the 7th month of employment. Dependent coverage is also available at an additional cost. Life insurance is provided at no cost; the maximum value of this group, term, life insurance is $40,000.

The Scranton State School for the Deaf, a state-owned school,

Scope of Duties:
The Social Studies Teacher will provide specific content instruction that is aligned with the Pennsylvania Standards, Scranton State School for the Deaf's Frameworks Curriculum and students' IEPs. This instructor will also be a member of the Transition Team, providing instruction for skill development to support students' transition goals, including but not limited to, voting rights, self-advocacy, accessing and navigating community services, ADA issues and protections, etc. The candidate will demonstrate proficiency in using ASL as the language of instruction within a dual language environment.

This Instructor will conduct classes for students K-12 for developing computer and technology literacy. Familiarity with both PC and MAC operating systems is essential as is expertise in all educational technology equipment and processes (digital recording, editing, Smartboard, etc.). The Instructor will also serve as a resource to staff for effective use of educational technology in the classroom, providing orientation, training and guidance. The candidate will demonstrate skills necessary for effective communication and instruction within a dual language environment where ASL is the language of instruction.

Certification in education of deaf children and Computer Science.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTORS
The Scranton State School for the Deaf, a state-owned school,
is located in Scranton (Lackawanna County) in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The campus consists of an academic and residential complex of
nine buildings located on ten acres of scenic land.
Scope of Duties:
Under general supervision of the department Principal this position is responsible for teaching American Sign Language via systematic, developmental approach. This Teacher will provide instruction in the grammatical structure of ASL so as to guide students in developing a firm foundation in their first language, providing remediation when necessary. Infused within the coursework will be topics that support the students' awareness of their culture and history. The ASL instructor will be a member of the Language Arts Team and will work cooperatively with other instructors in all courses. An ASL Instructor must be comfortable working with technology in the classroom, must write daily lesson plans outlining goals for students, must participate in IEP goal writing and may be asked to participate in student assessment. All Instructors must follow curricular guidelines, providing input for curriculum development and modifications to meet students' needs.
Minimum Requirements:
¨ Possession of, or eligible for Pennsylvania instructional
certification in education of deaf children
¨ American Sign Language teaching experience
¨ Must be able to communicate/teach ASL in a clear, concise
and knowledgeable manner.
Preferred Requirements:
¨ Three years of classroom experience with children who are
Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
Salary: $38,137 - $65,060 (Based on Educational Certification and years of experience.)
Benefits: Fringe benefits include paid vacation and sick leave on accrual basis, paid holidays. Health insurance is available by contributing 1% of the bi-weekly gross salary. An additional contribution may be required depending on the health plan selected. Vision, dental, prescription, and hearing aid reimbursement coverage is available beginning with the 7th month of employment. Dependent coverage is also available at an additional cost. Scope of Duties:
We seek a creative and dynamic individual who will guide school-wide ASL literacy efforts across disciplines, content areas and departments. The ASL Literacy Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining a dual-language emphasis while leading curriculum development and implementation, professional development, student assessment, remedial instruction, demonstration teaching, parent education and community connections. The ASL Literacy Coordinator will partner with the English Literacy Coordinator to support dual-language strategies as they are applied throughout the school. The Coordinator will also maintain data on student achievement and progress, providing assessment and input for program development, expansion and improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
¨ Possession of, or eligible for Pennsylvania instructional
certification in education of deaf children
¨ American Sign Language teaching experience
