Schoolwide Event Calendar
Sports play an important part in the total development of a well rounded adult, and a wide spectrum of intramural and recreational programs offered to Scranton State School for the Deaf's students provide many opportunities to enjoy the challenge of competition and the thrill of success.
Basketball, softball, cross country, soccer, and cheerleading teams encourage the student to develop physically as well as socially at SSSD. Teams compete with local hearing schools as well as other schools for deaf students. Annual tournaments provide a friendly atmosphere in which to develop athletic skills and sportsmanship in the company of ones peers.
In addition to the P. I. A. A., SSSD is a member of Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association, providing both male and female athletic teams the opportunity to compete with other athletes who are deaf while forging new friendships to be maintained over a lifetime.
Occasionally the numbers of students required to field a team in a particular sport are not available within SSSD's enrollment. In those instances, with the approval of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, our students may participate in interscholastic athletic teams either in their home school district or in those located in and around the greater Scranton area.
From the U.S. Interstate 81, Exit 188: follow directional signs at the end of the exit ramp toward Dunmore following Blakely Street to traffic light at Drinker Street. Turn right onto Drinker Street that merges with Electric Street. Proceed to second traffic light. At this intersection, turn right onto North Washington Avenue, enter the main driveway on your right. Visitor parking is on your right.
