Referrals for placement of students can be received from parents, Community Agencies, and Local Education Agencies (LEA). The LEA should have been in communication with the parents, and conducted an Evaluation to determine the educational options that could appropriately meet the needs of the child.

Such documentation should include a copy of:

The documents would then be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Also the family, student, LEA representative would be invited to tour SSSD, if that had not already occurred. It is at this time, further evaluations may be scheduled at SSSD.

The Admissions Committee would then make a recommendation to the Superintendent concerning the appropriateness of the student's placement at SSSD. The recommendations of the Admissions Committee can include:

1. A request for additional information
2. Offer of an evaluation period of 30, 60, or 90 school days at SSSD.
3. An immediate acceptance
4. Notice to the LEA that placement at SSSD would not meet the child's needs.

The Superintendent would formally notify the LEA in writing of SSSD's decision.
